Open source.

Open source

’Open source’ is a term used to describe software where the underlying code (called ’source code’) can be read by a developer. This is in contrast to proprietary software, which can generally only be understood by a computer. Although this might seem like a minor distinction, the implications are significant, and this fundamentally changes the way that organisations should approach software development and procurement.

The ability to study and change the underlying code means that it can be configured to your precise needs and combined with other systems aligned with your requirements. If used effectively, this leads to meaningful improvements in business processes and gives you a strategic advantage over your competitors.

We have experience working with a variety of open source products, including (but not limited to) Wordpress, Drupal, Apache, Linux, PHP, ResourceSpace, Trac and Subversion. If you work for one of these open source projects – thank you!

At The Team, we believe that the communities that support open source projects are every bit as important as the code itself. We have in-house expertise that can help clients to understand these communities, and work effectively with them to get maximum value from the software.

That said, we remain platform agnostic; that is, we can help our clients to make technology choices based on all the factors that should be taken into consideration, and not just functionality or licence cost.
