Ekwil

Creating a new sustainable energy brand

The Challenge

The primary challenge faced by Ekwil was the urgent need to develop a compelling brand proposition and branding system within a short timeframe in preparation for its market launch.

Insights revealed that the Floating Offshore Wind (FOW) market is still very much in development, and poorly understood by some customers, this created a unique opportunity for SBM Offshore and Technip Energies to join forces, pull collective capabilities and present a strong, clear and purposeful new brand proposition – Ekwil.

The Solution

We focused on creating an effective brand value proposition that aligned with the collective capabilities and evidential proof points of both SBM Offshore and Technip Energies.

We positioned the Ekwil brand to emphasise its commitment to delivering standards for success in the FOW sector, amplifying the combined expertise and innovative technologies of its parent companies.

Our approach was defined and developed to ensure that Ekwil would be clearly positioned and recognised as a leader in the market for future potential customers and stakeholders.

Arnaud Pieton, CEO of Technip Energies, said that, “By bringing together two world leading players, Ekwil will accelerate the deployment of industrial solutions for the nascent Floating Offshore Wind market. This joint-venture with SBM Offshore illustrates the commitment of Technip Energies to provide a diversified and expanding range of low-carbon solutions to support the global net-zero trajectory.”

How we did it

We executed our accelerated brand development process comprising of a concentrated series of workshops over a three-day period, collaborating closely with key stakeholders. Our approach allowed us to develop the Ekwil Brand Value Model at pace, which articulated how the new entity creates and realises value for both customers and stakeholders, whilst also defining how it would present value through a relevant and differentiating brand identity.

During these intensive workshops, we assessed competitor branding and propositions, which provided essential ballast for our strategy. This analysis surfaced key insights that informed the creative brief, core messaging and overall brand identity for Ekwil.

As our lead strategist Kevin MacKenzie told us, “The collaborative nature of our accelerated brand development process ensured optimal decision-making, ensuring it was frictionless and fluid, ultimately leading to a robust brand strategy that positions Ekwil as a market leader in the Floating Offshore Wind power sector.”

Results

Four months after we commenced the project, on 5 July 2024, SBM Offshore and Technip Energies officially launched Ekwil positioning it as a key player in the FOW market.

The launch of the Ekwil website further solidified its market presence in the presenting its core proposition and commitment to driving progress towards net-zero energy solutions.

Today’s launch of Ekwil marks a significant step to power progress in the floating offshore wind market, combining industry-leading expertise and solutions. I am proud to have the trust and commitment of SBM Offshore and Technip Energies and look forward to leading our talented teams towards a greener future for all.
